Chief Executive Officer
As a founder and CEO of Wound Care Specialists, Dr. Brenes leads the mission, vision and strategic initiatives of the organization.
Dr. Brenes received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He served as the chief resident in general surgery at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Yale University Affiliate, and completed a Post Doctoral Research Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine.
Dr. Brenes is a board-certified wound specialist physician through the American Board of Wound Management, a fellow of The American College of Clinical Wound Specialists, and is also certified in Hyperbaric Medicine and Problem Wound Management. Dr. Brenes is a member of various wound related professional organizations. Some of his accomplishments include receiving over twenty awards and honors, participating as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed medical journals, being invited to present wound related research internationally at wound conferences, and publishing more than twenty peer-reviewed articles and abstracts and even more podium presentations at conferences across the US and internationally.
As a clinician, Dr. Brenes continues to provide bedside wound management and care to his patients.
JONATHAN J. BRENES, MBA
Chief Operating Officer
With over 15 years of healthcare management experience, Jonathan brings a wealth of operational and financial knowledge to Wound Care Specialists.
Jonathan began his healthcare career as co-founder and CEO of GeriCare, where he scaled the company to one of Connecticut’s largest post-acute, primary care practices, and managed the organization through an acquisition with the nation’s largest hospitals practice.
Prior to taking his role with Wound Care Specialists, Jonathan served as Regional Director of IPC Healthcare, where he led integration, operational and business development initiatives.
Jonathan earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of New Haven in Connecticut.
JOSEPH A. BRENES, MD, WCC, CMD
Chief Medical Officer
As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brenes oversees all medical affairs, including clinical training and compliance initiatives for Wound Care Specialists.
Dr. Brenes is a wound care certified physician and has been a certified medical director through AMDA, The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, since 1999.
Prior to taking his role with Wound Care Specialists, Dr. Brenes owned and operated one of Connecticut’s largest community based primary care practices for over 35 years. He maintained an attending status at three local hospitals, served in various healthcare executive leadership positions throughout his healthcare career, including his position with GeriCare as the co-founder and Chief Medical Officer. With 40 years of experience in post-acute and long-term care, Dr. Brenes continues to be instrumental in the support of our medical staff and patients care initiatives.
Dr. Brenes received his medical degree at Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña in the Dominican Republic and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine.
